My name is Elias. I grew up in New Haven and I am a rising junior at Yale.

With your support, I hope to serve as your next Ward 1 Alder. I will lead with energy and kindness, remain approachable and responsive, and bring people together.

Why am I running?

I love this city and want to be a part of its future. I am committed to the following:

  • Fighting for a more just and positive relationship between Yale and New Haven

  • Increasing Yale student engagement in city

  • Contributing to thoughtful, community-based changes to the Green

  • Making downtown feel less Yale-centric and more welcoming to all New Haven residents

  • Expanding affordable housing through new zoning laws and developer incentives

  • Advocating for more state funding for our public schools

What is an Alder?

An Alder is a representative on New Haven’s city council, the Board of Alders. The city is organized into 30 different districts, or Wards. Ward 1, pictured left, includes Old Campus and eight residential colleges and is situated at the heart of New Haven’s downtown. The Ward 1 Alder seat has long been held by a Yale undergraduate. Alders propose and vote on local laws, approve the city budget, advocate for residents, and help oversee city services to address community needs.

Why should I register to vote in Connecticut, especially if I could vote absentee in a swing state?

While 2025 is an off year in most places, there are crucial elections that will shape New Haven, which is the place you live the majority of the time. At this moment more than ever, meaningful change starts at the local level. Make your voice heard on September 9 and November 4. Switching your voter registration is quick and easy, and you can change it back at any time. Click here for instructions to register!
